Since
I'm one of the biggest Indiana Jones fans on the planet...and the
film was released 3 days after my birthday (May 19th), my awesome
girlfriend Jennifer decided it was only appropriate that she make
my party Indiana Jones themed!
The
morning of the 17th, she asked if I would indulge her by leaving
the apartment for an hour or so. I did, and when I returned I was
amazed by the transformation she had made! It was an Indiana Jones
fan's paradise! Our dining room table was decked out with Indiana
Jones themed party supplies; including plates, cups, napkins, popcorn
boxes, and tablecloths. Jennifer had hung a gorgeous Indy banner
on the wall (we obtained it from a local grocer a week earlier),
there was an Indy-birthday banner, and she had incorporated the
Indy logo colors (red, orange, and yellow) into other decorations
such as streamers.
But, that's
not all; there were also rubber spiders everywhere...snakes (why
did it have to be snakes?!) made of plastic adorned the entire apartment,
and the living room had also been transformed. A 6-foot Indiana
Jones standee (obtained from the same local grocer) stood by our
balcony entrance, our coffee table had paper Indy fedoras (sold
by the same company who made the party supplies), coconut bowls
full of Indiana Jones Mint Crisp M&M's, and Indiana Jones trivia
for the guests!
The
M&M's weren't the only Indy food either! She had come up with
Indiana Jones names for each food item and even printed out placecards
with the names on them along with a picture depicting the scene
or character the food referenced. There were "Bad Dates"
(greek olive medley), "Spalko's Spiders and Brody's Bats"
which were sugar cookies shaped like those creatures. She also prepared
"Grail Knight Guacamole" and "Belloq's Boulder Ball"
(a ham and cheese ball). And Jennifer managed to find a glass goblet
that resembled the Grail
from "Last Crusade"; of course, this was my designated
birthday glass which I used to drink "Fountain of Youth Ale"
during the entire evening.
No
Indy party would be complete without games, and Jennifer thought
of two awesome contests! The first, an Indiana Jones trivia game,
consisted of 16 questions about the original Indy trilogy. The next
game she concocted was "Pin the Fedora on Lego Indy";
guests were required to pin (sticky tack) laminated paper fedoras
on a picture of Lego Indy that Jennifer had drawn and laminated.
And what prize awaited the two lucky winners of these competitions,
besides fortune and glory? They won a box of "Indiana Jones"
cereal and a "Indiana Jones" Snickers Adventure Bar, respectively.
Of course, I wasn't allowed to take part in the Indiana Jones Trivia
game, since I was the one who provided the answers to the questions;
but, I did serve as the game's master of ceremonies.
Of course,
even the birthday cake was Indiana Jones themed; an awesome picture
of Indy and Mutt adorned the top of the chocolate with raspberry
filling cake!
I received
plenty of Indiana Jones gifts from my incredible friends, including;
the Disneyland Indy figure, the Cartamundi Indy playing cards two
pack, and Colonel Dovchenko and Monkey Man figures by Hasbro.
One final
detail, throughout the entire party we had the Indiana Jones Special
Edition DVD's playing on the TV, and the newest trailer for "Indiana
Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" was set on "loop"
on our Macbook which was sitting on one of the dining room tables.
All in all...it
was an amazing, memorable, spectacular party! Jennifer worked her
heart out planning, setting up, and carrying out an Indiana Jones
party that was truly my greatest birthday adventure ever!
Hope you
enjoy the story and pics!
